Your gloves take a real beating on the mountain: snow, moisture, freezing temps, and endless binding adjustments. To keep them performing well and lasting as long as possible, they need proper care. We’ve put together a simple guide with tips on how to maintain both leather and synthetic gloves. With these steps, your gear will stay in top shape and ready for your next ride.
How to care for our leather gloves?
Proper care can significantly extend the life of your leather gloves and mittens and keep them in great condition. Our leather gloves are made from 100% goatskin, a strong and flexible material with a naturally slightly oily surface that helps it resist moisture and dirt. Thanks to these properties, goatskin is ideal for snowboard gloves: it holds its shape, absorbs water more slowly, and stays comfortably supple even in freezing conditions. To make sure your gloves last as long as possible and perform the way they should, we’ve put together a simple step-by-step guide on how to take care of them.
Before you start, keep these basics in mind
Our leather gloves and mittens are made from 100% goatskin and feature a 20K membrane and Hyperloft insulation on the inside, keeping your hands warm and dry all day long. To keep these functional layers in top condition, air your gloves regularly and only clean them when it’s really necessary. Never fully soak or submerge them in water and never wash them in a washing machine — water exposure and mechanical washing can damage the leather, the membrane, and the insulation.
Prepare your supplies and remove any dust from the gloves
Prepare a soft cloth, a gentle leather cleaner and lukewarm water. The outer shell and palm are made from 100% goatskin, which is smooth, so you usually won’t need a brush. Gently wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove dust and small particles. If the gloves are more heavily soiled, you can slightly dampen the cloth.
Clean any stains and, if needed, wipe down the entire glove
If you notice stains, apply a small amount of leather cleaner onto a soft cloth (never directly onto the leather) and always test it on a less visible spot first. Gently dab the stain and avoid using too much water. Even though goatskin handles moisture better than other leathers, excessive water can dry it out or deform it. If your gloves haven’t been cleaned for a while, give them a gentle overall clean using small circular motions. Wipe off any remaining cleaner with a slightly damp cloth. Never fully soak or submerge leather gloves in water, it would damage the leather, the 20K membrane, and the Hyperloft insulation.
Air-dry them away from direct sunlight and heat sources
After cleaning, let the gloves air-dry at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or radiators, as they can dry out the goatskin and affect the performance of both the membrane and the insulation. To help them keep their shape, you can gently stuff them with paper towels.
Apply leather conditioner and finish with a soft cloth
Once the gloves are completely dry, apply a small amount of conditioner made for smooth leather. This step is essential for goatskin. It helps maintain its flexibility, softness, and durability. Finish by buffing the gloves with a soft, dry cloth to restore their natural look and remove any excess product.
Store them properly in a cool, dry place
Store your gloves in a cool, dry place, ideally in a breathable fabric pouch that allows the leather to breathe and prevents moisture buildup. Always make sure the gloves are completely dry before storing them. Handle them with clean hands to avoid transferring oils or dirt onto the leather.
How to care for our synthetic gloves?
Proper care can significantly extend the life of synthetic gloves and keep them in great condition throughout the season. Our polyester gloves combine a durable outer material with a 3,000/3,000 mm water-repellent coating and an internal 20,000/20,000 mm membrane that reliably protects against moisture and keeps your hands dry even during a full day on the mountain. Polyester is lightweight, dries quickly and resists wear, making it an ideal choice for everyday riding. To help your gloves last as long as possible and maintain all their functional properties, we’ve prepared a simple step-by-step guide on how to take care of them.
Before you start, keep these basic rules in mind
Our 100% polyester gloves feature a 3,000/3,000 mm water-repellent coating and a highly functional 20,000/20,000 mm membrane inside. To keep both layers working properly for as long as possible, air out your gloves regularly and clean them only when truly necessary. Avoid using hot water, never machine-wash them, and stay away from heavy soaking, which could damage the membrane.
Prepare your supplies and wipe off any dust from the gloves
Prepare a soft cloth, a gentle cleaner suitable for synthetic materials, and some lukewarm water. The polyester outer fabric handles light wiping with a damp cloth well, so you can easily remove dust and small dirt without worrying about damaging the water-repellent finish.
Clean any stains and, if needed, wipe down the entire glove
If you notice any stains, apply a small amount of gentle cleaner to a soft cloth and carefully dab the spot. Polyester handles moisture well, but we still don’t recommend fully soaking the gloves. Completely saturating or wringing them could reduce the membrane’s performance. If the gloves need more thorough cleaning, wipe down the entire surface using gentle circular motions. Remove any leftover cleaner with a cloth dampened only with clean water.
Air-dry them away from direct sunlight and heat sources
Let your gloves air-dry at room temperature and keep them away from direct sunlight, radiators, or hot air. High temperatures can damage both the coating and the membrane. If you need to help them keep their shape, you can lightly stuff them with paper towels.
Don’t use conditioner, restore the water-repellent finish instead
Unlike leather, polyester doesn’t need any conditioner. Once the gloves are completely dry, you can treat them with a DWR-restoring spray to keep the water-repellent coating working well, even after multiple seasons.
Store them properly in a cool, dry place
Store your gloves in a cool, dry place. Ideally in a breathable fabric bag so the membrane can breathe properly. Before putting them away, make sure they’re completely dry, any leftover moisture could affect both the membrane’s performance and the durability of the coating. Always handle them with clean hands to avoid transferring dirt onto the fabric.
